A tissue and towel producer in Vietnam contacted us about surface quality issues on their crescent former (running ~1,200 m/min, virgin-recycled blends): heavy paper dust on towel grades, occasional sheet sticking to the Yankee causing breaks, and oil spots appearing on premium facial tissue from their previous oily release agent. Below is the key technical consultation.
Dusting & Sticking
Q:On towel grades we get heavy paper dust at high speed; on facial tissue we see oil spots and the sheet sometimes sticks to the Yankee. What's the connection?
A:They're all release problems. Dusting happens when the sheet doesn't peel cleanly at the creping blade - surface fibers tear off instead of the sheet releasing as a whole, so you get lint and dust. Sticking means the release film is too weak to let the sheet peel at all, which leads to breaks. Oil spots come from traditional oily release agents with strong hydrophobicity that don't disperse evenly. PR-08 Mineral Oil Release Agent addresses all three: it forms a uniform protective film on the dryer surface, its rapid cold-water emulsification keeps the dispersion even (no oil spots), and its self-lubricating property reduces both dusting and sticking while lowering wear between the dryer and doctor blades.
Why PR-08
Q:Our previous release agent was oil-based too. What makes PR-08 different?
A:PR-08 isn't a crude oil emulsion - it's synthesized with imported technology from mineral oil, fatty acid esters, and high-quality natural raw materials, with 15 years of field validation. Specs: active ingredient 100%, non-ionic, viscosity ≤300 mPa·s (25°C), pH 6.0–8.0, disperses and emulsifies extremely easily in cold water. The optimized formulation ensures even dispersion on the sheet without oil spots. The self-lubricating film also protects the dryer surface and creping blades, extending equipment life. It's non-ionic, so it won't react with cationic additives (like our PR-09 adhesive) in the system.
Application & Dosage
Q:How do we apply it, and what dosage should we start with?
A:Two standard methods. Spray onto the Yankee surface after diluting 50–200 times with water - this gives rapid lubrication and release. Or use in-line dilution / pulp addition, which suits automated lines and allows precise adjustment. Under normal conditions, dosage is 0.5–1 kg per ton of paper; adjust based on basis weight, machine speed, and paper width. Because it dissolves quickly in cold water, it's convenient and won't clog spray nozzles.
Expected Results
Q:What should we expect after switching, and does it work on our other grades?
A:Within a few hours of stable dosing, dusting drops sharply, sticking-related breaks decline, and oil spots disappear from premium grades. PR-08 adapts to a wide range of grades - tissue, towel, writing paper, duplex, lightweight paper, aluminum foil backing, corrugating medium, linerboard, fruit wrap, and more. It's compatible with both cast iron and stainless steel dryers. For mills without proper spray hardware, we also customize Yankee dryer spray equipment and provide installation and commissioning guidance.
Typical Results After PR-08 Optimization
Paper dust / lint on towel grades significantly reduced
Sticking-related web breaks declined
No oil spots on premium facial tissue
Doctor blade and dryer surface wear reduced via self-lubricating film
Finished product yield improved
If your mill is facing dusting, sticking, oil spots, or blade wear, our technical team can review your process and recommend a tailored release solution.
